### A cup of water splits the visit before anybody drives over

The combination cavities fail as two independent halves, and sixty seconds on a cup of water says which. Convection heating while the microwave side does nothing points at the door interlocks and the magnetron circuit, and the interlocks are far more common because they are wear parts operated thousands of times. Neither heating points at the supply and the main board first. The display will not narrow it: ERROR and two digits are printed without decoding in four manuals, so the split is made at the appliance.

Separate the two halves

Convection and microwave tested independently, which decides the whole direction of the visit in about two minutes.

Test the interlocks before the magnetron

Three switches in series, and by a distance the most common cause. They are cheap, they are wear parts, and they stop the cavity dead when one disagrees.

Measure output rather than assume it

A timed water heating test before and after, so the repair is proved with a number and not with a warm cup.

### Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Usually, and the reason has little to do with the appliance itself: it sits in a cabinet cut to cabinet cut to its dimensions, and the replacement that fits that opening is not a shelf item. A magnetron on a very old cavity is where the arithmetic changes, and we say so at the diagnostic.

### The turntable turns but nothing heats.

Normal for this failure, and worth knowing. The turntable motor is wired independently of the magnetron circuit, so a plate that turns proves only that the cavity has power — it says nothing at all about whether the microwave side is working.
