### One measurement splits this into two different repairs

Water temperature through the wash phase. A machine that never reaches temperature has a heating problem with a component behind it; one that heats correctly and still leaves the load wet has a condensing and airflow problem, and the heater is innocent. Those are different parts at different prices, and the reading is what separates them before anything is ordered. On the turbo drying models there is a third possibility, because those add a fan that fails on its own. Most of the charge here is the testing rather than the component.

Measure the water, not the dishes

Temperature through the wash phase logged against what the program calls for. That one reading settles whether this is a heating repair or a drying one.

Test the heating circuit end to end

Element resistance, thermistor curve and the control's own reading of it. A thermistor reporting wrongly makes a healthy element look dead.

Check the drying path

Rinse aid, the condensing surface, the vent and, where fitted, the drying fan. Most wet dishes on a machine that heats correctly are one of those four.

### The cycle takes far longer than it used to.

That is usually heating rather than a timer: the program waits for temperature before it advances, so a heating problem announces itself as a clock problem first.

### Are wet plastics normal?

Yes. Plastic holds no heat, so it dries last in any dishwasher. If the china and the glassware are dry and only the tubs are damp, nothing is wrong.
