# Asko washer door seal replacement

### Grit cuts it from the inside, months before the floor is wet

The bellows fold at the bottom of the door holds a little water and everything that came out of pockets, and that material abrades the rubber from the inside. So the seal is failing long before anything shows, and by the time it does the cabinet and often the floor beneath have been taking water for a while. The visit reads the old seal before removing it — where it cut and on which side says whether this was grit, a hinge that has dropped, or a machine standing out of level — and fits the new one with both clamps seated and the drain port in the bellows clear.

What this involves

Grit in the bottom fold is the cause — the seal is the symptom

Caught early it is a part; caught late it is a floor slab and a neighbor

Clamp and drain path renewed with it, or the new seal goes the same way

Read the old seal before removing it

Where it cut and on which side tells us whether this is grit, a hinge that has dropped or a machine out of level. Fitting a new seal without that answer buys about a year.

Fit the seal and both clamps properly

Inner and outer clamps seated at the right positions and the drain port in the bellows clear — a blocked port holds water against the new rubber from the first wash.

Correct what cut it

Level, hinge, and the habit of leaving the door shut on a damp drum. We say the last one out loud because it is the one that decides the next seal's life.

### Why does it matter more in an apartment?

Because the floor under a laundry closet is a slab with somebody else's home under it. The part is inexpensive; a month of water into that slab is not, and that is the whole reason we say stop using the machine rather than run it carefully.

### Can I make the next one last longer?

Two things, both free. Wipe the bottom fold out once a week, and leave the door ajar between washes so the rubber dries. Together they are the difference between five years and nine.
