### What to do in the next ten minutes

Run a drain or spin-only program and let it finish — most doors release the moment the drum is empty. If there is no power to do that, empty it through the small drain hose behind the lower panel. Then switch the machine off at the wall for five full minutes and back on; many locks release on that alone. If the drum is empty and the door still holds, stop there.

### Why there is no emergency handle

Some front loaders have a release cable behind the lower panel and some do not, and on the ones that do it is intended for a drained machine. Pulling a release on a full drum empties it onto the floor, which is exactly what the interlock exists to prevent. So the honest advice on this make is to drain first and pull nothing — and if the machine has no power at all, to empty it through the hose before anybody goes looking for a cable.

### What levering it open costs

A lock is an inexpensive component. A door, its hinge and the handle are not, and a door levered open takes all three with it about half the time. There is still water in the drum

By far the most common reason, and not a failure at all. The lock is interlocked with level for the same reason spin is.

The door lock has failed shut

The mechanism no longer releases even with the drum empty and the power cycled. It is an ordinary part and the machine is not usable until it is changed.

The door has dropped on its hinge

The latch is binding rather than the lock failing. It usually gets stiff for weeks first, which is the warning nobody acts on.

Is there water in the drum?

Look through the glass. If there is, this is a drainage question and not a lock one.

Have you tried a full power-off?

Five minutes at the wall, not a quick flick. A surprising share of locks release on that.

Has the door been stiff lately?

A latch that has needed a firmer push for a while has been telling you this was coming.

### The washing has been in there two days.

Rewash it rather than dry it — two days at room temperature in this climate is enough to need it. The machine itself is unharmed.

### Will the lock fail again?

Not usually. These fail from cycles and age rather than from a design problem, and a new one on a machine with years left in it is a proper repair.
