- “Heat pump and condenser machines fail differently and cost differently”

Symptom
Asko dryer runs but there is no heat
The machine behaves normally in every way except the one that matters. On a condenser machine this splits into a heater and its thermostats; on a heat pump machine it is a sealed refrigeration circuit and the answer is a different order of expense entirely. Which one you have is therefore the first question, and it is answered by the model rather than by the symptom. Before either, though, the same free checks apply: a machine that cannot move air will trip its own thermal protection and then run cold, and that is not a heater problem at all.

Three ordinary causes
What this usually turns out to be
Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.
-
A thermal cut-out has tripped
The machine protected itself against overheating caused by a blocked air path, and it will keep doing it until the path is cleared. Resetting without clearing achieves nothing.

The heating element or a thermostat has failed
On condenser machines, an ordinary repair with ordinary parts. Measured in circuit rather than swapped, because a thermostat reading wrongly makes a good element look dead.
Dryer sensor and thermostat service from $149 -
The heat pump circuit has failed
On the heat pump platform this is the expensive answer, and it is only reached after everything ordinary has been eliminated. A compressor is not an element.

Before you call anybody
None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

01
Is the air at the door warm at all?
Slightly warm and slightly warm are different from stone cold. Feel it in the first two minutes rather than at the end.
-
02
Has it been overheating or smelling hot?
A machine that has been running hot and now runs cold has almost certainly tripped its protection, and the cause is the air path.
-
03
What is the model number?
Inside the door frame. Heat pump or condenser is the difference between a part and a sealed system, and it cannot be told from the outside.
How it shows up
What people describe when they call
Two shortcuts
Narrow it down before anybody arrives
A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem, and the model number says which parts to bring. Either one shortens the visit; both together usually settle it.

What to do in the next ten minutes
Do the three filters properly — door lint, condenser washed clear, container emptied. Kill the power at the socket for a full five minutes, restart on a short program, and feel the air at the door in the opening minutes. Note the model number from the sticker inside the door frame while you are there; on this complaint it decides everything that follows.
Why we clear before we test
Thermal cut-outs exist to stop a dryer becoming a fire, and they do their job. What they do not do is explain themselves: the machine simply stops heating. Replacing a cut-out on a blocked machine gets you one more warm cycle and the same failure. So the sequence on this complaint is always clear the air path, then reset, then measure — and where the machine was genuinely clean, the measurement means something.
The one place the platform changes the answer
On a condenser machine an element, a thermostat and a cut-out are a modest repair. On a heat pump machine there is no element: heat comes from a refrigeration circuit, and if that has failed the arithmetic against the value of the machine changes completely. We say which case yours is at the diagnostic, with the figure, before anything is ordered.

Questions about Asko dryer runs but there is no heat
Can I keep using it without heat?
It will tumble and it will not dry, and if a cut-out has tripped there is a reason it tripped. Better to leave it until the air path is cleared.
It heats for ten minutes and then stops.
Classic overheating pattern — it reaches its limit and cuts out, then recovers as it cools. That is the air path almost every time.
