An Asko Oven Showing Err and Two Digits: What the Manuals Actually Say

An Asko oven showing Err and two digits has no published meaning, and that is a fact about the manuals rather than a gap in anybody's research. Six oven manuals across several generations — OCS8456S, OCM84331BG, OP8651, OT8636S, OCM8487S and OCS8664A — all print the same thing: an error code is displayed, the digits denote the number of the error, disconnect the power for a few minutes, reconnect, and if it persists call a technician. None of them carries a table. The digits mean something to a service tool and nothing in print. Do the reset the manual asks for. If the code returns, note the digits and the model, and note what the oven was doing when it stopped — on this appliance that history is most of the diagnosis.

The full guide

The oven stops, the display shows Err and two digits, and every search returns a confident table. Here is what the manufacturer's own documents say.

What the oven manuals publish, and what circulates instead Six Asko oven manuals across several generations were read: OCS8456S, OCM84331BG, OP8651, OT8636S, OCM8487S and OCS8664A. Every one prints an undecoded ErrXX and the same instruction to disconnect the appliance, reconnect it and call a technician if the code persists. None carries a table of meanings. A decoded ERR1 to ERR15 list circulates on repair sites with no manufacturer citation and matches none of the six manuals. TWO SOURCES. ONLY ONE OF THEM IS A SOURCE. WHAT THE MANUALS SAY ErrXX — and nothing more Six manuals read, several generations apart. Every one: disconnect the power, reconnect, call a technician if it persists. Tables of meanings: none. WHAT CIRCULATES ERR1 – ERR15, and F85 Decoded confidently, with a meaning against each number. Matches none of the six. Carried by two sites whose wording is near identical. Citations to the maker: none. We publish the left-hand box. The digits mean something to a service tool and nothing in print.
Two sites saying the same thing in the same words are one source, not two.

What six manuals actually print

The OCS8456S manual, page 50: an error code is displayed, ERRXX, where XX denotes the number of the error, indicating an error in the electronic module operation. The remedy given is to disconnect the appliance from the power for a few minutes, reconnect it, switch it on, and — if the code comes back — to call a service technician.

The OCM84331BG manual, page 43, says the same in different words. So do the OP8651 at page 35, the OT8636S at page 36 and the OCM8487S at page 37. The OCS8664A follows the same pattern.

Six manuals. No table in any of them.

Why that is worth saying out loud

Because a decoded ERR1 to ERR15 list circulates widely, and it is not sourced to anything. It matches none of the manuals above. The two sites carrying it share wording and structure closely enough that they are one source copied, not two independent readings.

We would rather tell you the honest answer — the digits are for a service tool — than repeat a table that would make this page rank and be wrong.

Do the reset the manual asks for

Isolate the oven at the breaker rather than at a switch, leave it for a few minutes, restore power and set the clock. On a control that latched a transient condition, that clears it and the oven behaves. It is the only owner-level step the manufacturer offers, and it works often enough to be worth doing before anybody is called.

What to note if it comes back

Three things, and they are worth more than the digits:

  • Which functions still heat. Grill, fan, bake, top and bottom elements — try each. Partial heating narrows this to one element or one relay before anything is opened.
  • When it stopped. During preheat, halfway through a long roast, or during a self-clean cycle. Each points somewhere different.
  • Whether a thermal cut-out has tripped before. An oven that has been running hot and now shows an error is telling a different story from one that failed cold.

The parts question, said early

Asko lists no ovens for sale in the United States at all. The machines here arrived through earlier distribution or were specified into a kitchen around European appliances, and their parts come through a European channel. That is a lead time rather than a surcharge, and we state it at the diagnostic rather than after — because on an oven that is out of catalog, when the part arrives is half of the decision.

If it turns out to be a repair

Every job on this site is priced the same way: an on-site diagnostic first, the figure agreed in writing before anybody starts.

  • Oven not heating repair

A cavity that never warms up, or one where some functions heat and others do not — and on make the display will not help. When these stop they show ErrXX and no published document decodes those digits: three separate manuals say only to disconnect, reconnect and call somebody. So the work is conventional and thorough. Which functions still work is the most useful thing anybody can tell us on the phone, because a grill that heats while the bake element does not has already halved the diagnosis.

    • ErrXX is undecoded in every published manual — the digits are for a service tool
    • Which functions still work is the single most useful thing to tell us
    • Element, thermostat, thermal cut-out and the board, tested in that order
    What this involves
  • Dishwasher will not start

Dead silence, and on an integrated machine the prime suspect is mechanical rather than electrical: is the door. A custom panel adds weight the hinge springs were set for on installation day, joinery settles over the years, and a door that looks perfectly shut can be sitting a millimeter proud of the switch that proves it. On the Outdoor machines there is even a message for it in as many words. After the door there is the supply, and then a control that is genuinely not responding — in that order, because that is the order of cost.

    • Push the door firmly and try again — on an integrated machine this is the usual answer
    • A delay start nobody cleared behaves precisely like a dead machine
    • Check the socket behind the cabinet, which nobody can see
    What it usually means
  • Oven signal ErrXX

Asko oven — reported by blinking lights rather than by a code. This is a signal rather than a code, and it is published as one.

What the lights are telling you

Questions people ask about this

I found a list online that decodes ERR1 to ERR15.

It matches none of the six manuals, and the two accessible sites carrying it use near-identical wording and structure — which makes them one source rather than two independent ones. We will not repeat it. Publishing a meaning the manufacturer does not publish is how a search result becomes worse than no search result.

So what can you tell from the code?

That the control has recorded something. Which is genuinely useful to a technician with the right tool, and not useful in print. What narrows the visit is which functions still work — a grill that heats while the bake element does not has already halved the diagnosis.

Is it safe to keep using the oven?

Do the reset once. If the oven then behaves normally, use it and watch. If the code returns, or if the oven heats when it should not, stop using it and isolate it — an oven that ignores its own controls is a different situation from one that refuses to start.
