Symptom

Asko dishwasher leaking

Water appearing at the toe kick, which on an integrated machine is almost never where the leak started — it tracks along the frame and comes out at the front. That single fact decides how this is handled: the panel comes off and the machine comes forward before anybody says where the water is from, because a good door seal gets replaced every day by somebody guessing from the front. On a legacy machine the base float may raise an overfill message while the tray fills, and that message is the machine protecting your floor rather than a separate problem.

Three ordinary causes

What this usually turns out to be

Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.

  • The door seal has cut or set

Grit collects in the bottom fold and works into the rubber. It leaks at the bottom corners first, usually during the wash phase when the water is being thrown about.

  • A hose union or the sump has let go

Behind the machine and invisible from the front. This is the one that soaks the joinery floor for weeks before anything shows, and it is why we look at the carcass as well as the appliance.

  • The inlet valve is passing while off

Water arriving when the machine is not asking for it fills it overnight. On this make there is a dedicated message for exactly that, and it should be treated as urgent.

In five minutes

Before you call anybody

None of it needs tools, and all of it makes the visit shorter.

  1. 01

    When does the water appear?

Fill, wash or drain. Each phase pressurizes a different part of the machine, and a leak that shows in only one of the three is half diagnosed already.

  2. 02

    Is the base tray wet?

Toe kick off, torch in. A dry tray moves this towards a door seal; a wet one means it has been running underneath for some time.

  3. 03

What does the cabinet floor look like?

Swollen chipboard or a dark line at the back is a separate problem from the appliance, and it is better found now than after the repair.

How it shows up

What people describe when they call

  • “An overfill message with a wet base tray is a leak, not a sensor”
  • “Turn the water off at the sink and stop using the machine”
  • “Where it shows at the front is not where it started”
A phone held up photographing a rating plate inside an open machine door, the screen showing the same plate.

Two shortcuts

Narrow it down before anybody arrives

A description of the behaviour leaves a few possible causes. A code names the subsystem, and the model number says which parts to bring. Either one shortens the visit; both together usually settle it.

About Asko dishwasher leaking

What to do in the next ten minutes

Turn the service valve under the sink off and switch the machine off at the wall. Pull the toe kick away and look into the base: standing water there means the tray has been catching it for a while. Put a towel down, do not run another program to test it, and note whether the water appeared during fill, during wash or at the end — each points at a different part and it is the one thing only you can observe.

Why the panel comes off first

An integrated dishwasher sits inside joinery that was built around it, and water inside that box has one way out: forward, along the frame, under the toe kick. So the puddle tells you almost nothing about the source. The sequence that works is dull and reliable — isolate, remove the custom door, bring the machine out, then run each phase separately and watch. Anything faster than that is a guess with a part attached.

What a slow leak costs in a condominium

A door seal that has been cutting for a month puts water into a floor slab, and in a building that stops being a dishwasher repair and becomes several units' problem. It is the reason we say to stop using the machine rather than to run it carefully until somebody can come — the machine holds several gallons and a program will use all of them.

Questions about Asko dishwasher leaking

Can I keep using it until you come?

No. A leak that has reached the tray will reach the floor, and the cost of the days in between is out of all proportion to the repair.

There is water but no message at all.

Common, and it does not mean anything is fine. The base float only lifts when water collects in the tray; a leak at the door or at a hose behind the machine never touches it.
