Water appearing under or beside the machine, and by the time it shows on the tile it has usually traveled along the frame from somewhere else. Three places account for nearly all of it: the door seal, where grit collects in the bottom fold and cuts the rubber from the inside over months; the pump filter cap, very often after somebody cleared a blockage and did not seat it; and the hose unions at the wall. In a condominium this matters further than the machine does, because water in a laundry closet reaches a floor slab and then somebody else's ceiling.

Cheapest and commonest first, which is also the order we check them in. They sit hundreds of dollars apart, and only the unit settles which one is yours.

The door seal has been cut by grit
The most common part we replace on this make. It leaks at the bottom during the wash phase, when water is being thrown about, and it has usually been failing for months.

The pump filter cap is not seated
Cross-threaded or a quarter-turn short. It leaks only while the machine is pumping, which makes it intermittent and confusing.

When does the water appear?
During fill, during wash, or during drain. Each pressurizes different parts, and the answer usually names the component.

What to do in the next ten minutes
Close both taps at the wall and switch the machine off. Dry the floor completely and put down paper towel, then look at where it appears next — front, side or back tells us a great deal. Check the pump filter cap is firm. Run a hand round the door seal, especially the bottom fold, and feel for grit or a split. Do not run another program to reproduce it.
What the bottom fold of a seal does
The door bellows has a fold at the bottom that holds a little water and everything that came out of pockets. Sand, grit and hair sit in it between washes and work into the rubber, and the seal fails from the inside out. That is why it is a wear part rather than a defect, why wiping the fold dry occasionally genuinely extends its life, and why we look at where it cut rather than just fitting a new one.
Why we are firm about stopping
A washing machine holds and moves several gallons per program. A leak that puts a cup on the floor during a wash puts considerably more into the structure over a week of ordinary use, and in a condominium the cost of that week lands on people who never owned the machine. This is the one complaint where we would rather you left it unused for two days than ran it carefully.
